Salon & Restaurant

The Salon is at the front of the ship and makes a delightful meeting place, as well as providing an alternative location for meals. Borrow a book or DVD from our library, play board games, watch major events on satellite TV or connect with the outside world with our onboard internet connection. The salon is also a place to meet your fellow guests for drinks at the bar before dinner and perhaps sip a digestive and discuss the events of the day late into the evening.

Cuisine

The food on board Princess Donia is designed to offer a wide range of dishes which will appeal to most tastes.
Breakfast is a leisurely affair which may be taken on the top deck whenever you are ready in the morning. There are no set times and the stewards will bring you freshly squeezed juice, fresh fruit, fine coffee and a variety tea's, eggs any way you like them, even soft boiled eggs and soldiers as well as the usual cereals etc. Or you may prefer to try an Egyptian breakfast "Shak Shuka" eggs scrambled with onion, peppers, garlic and a little chili served with soft bread rolls to awaken your palate!
We buy freshly caught fish from the local fisherman as they pull up alongside at any convenient point during our journey; we are able to change the menu at short notice to accommodate freshly grilled Nile Perch or Catfish.
Lunch is on the top deck under the shade of the canvas roof which protects everyone from the midday sun. We generally serve a selection of local Mediterranean dishes including Baba Anoug (eggplant and chick pea dip) Middle Eastern Salads, Falafel, Sweet Tomato Salad and local Flatbread. It's perfect lunch fare for vegetarians as well as carnivores. A glass or two of Shahrazade Rose, or a cold beer sets the tone for an afternoon of relaxing as we cruise leisurely to our next temple destination.
Dinner can be a slightly more formal affair (though it needn't be) and it is an opportunity for the ladies to dress up. Most evenings are a delightful temperature to dine outside on the upper deck or wherever we dock, on a sandy island, in the grounds of one of the temples or simply on the banks of the Nile. If the weather is less than perfect (too hot, too cold) then dinner is served in the air-conditioned Salon after cocktails in the bar prepared by our Head Steward.
We serve an authentic Egyptian Banquet including the famous Pigeon Farsi, Stuffed Vine Leaves, Fish Tajen, with roasted seasonal vegetables and other Middle Eastern delectable's. After which, the crew will lead the guests in a riotous fun evening of music, singing and dancing in full traditional costume.
Enthusiasm and eagerness to please mean that the service staff will look after all your dining needs with friendly efficiency, the intimate layout of The Princess Donia ensures that food is always fresh and served piping hot with grace and style. Enjoy!

General Information

Imagine sailing down the Nile on a sailing ship that could have come straight out of an Agatha Christie film. Sitting out on the deck and enjoying amazing views whilst cruising leisurely down the banks of the Nile aboard the first ever five stars Dahabeeyah sailing ships .

Dahabeeyah translated means Golden Boat in Egyptian. They were originally used by kings to travel on the Nile, and are beautifully crafted twin masted sailing ships. The five stars Dahabiyya aims to give guests a more than luxurious stay. It is 36m long and has 4 en-suite cabins, a very large Suite complete with its own terrace. There is also a spacious salon lounge with bar and a 24m sundeck.

A visit to Selsila temple can be acheived only with our dahabiyas.Unlike the cruise ships, our Dahabyeas can berth at any suitable place on the banks of the Nile. This allows for a more flexible itinerary and a more enjoyable exploration of the river.

Dahabyea has many transcriptions some write it as dahabeah or dahabiah or dahabiyah or  Dahabiya or Dahabeya and Dahabia but at the end they are all refer to the small boat that is sailing in the River Nile , gonig by the wind only ! imitating  Kings and Queens from the past , we are here to let you feel as you are one of them .

Guests will be able to enjoy the most fabulous European and Egyptian cuisine. It is a very romantic ship in a romantic setting. Guests will actually be able to reach down and touch the Nile as they sail in a wonderful tranquil silence and see sights that haven't changed for a few thousand years - yet with all the modern comforts that first class travel offers.

The cruises are between Luxor and Aswan and will call at all the tourist highlights, such as Esna, Edfu, Kom Ombo as well as some of the more unusual smaller villages that the larger ships can't access.
