Detailed Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Arrive Cairo

Ahlan wasahlan bekom fi Masr: Arde El Farahnah (Welcome to Egypt: the Land of the Pharaohs). Once you have arrived at the Arrivals Hall, after your short bus trip from your aeroplane, you will be welcomed by our Oriental Tours representative, who will be standing inside the doors holding a board showing your name. He will then help you purchase your visa (if applicable), get your currency exchanged to Egyptian Pounds (known as LE, which is short for Livre Égyptienne), and then take you through Passport Control. From here he will assist you with collecting your luggage, before escorting you to our waiting, air-conditioned, vehicle outside. You will then be taken to your hotel, with our representative explaining details of your package to you, en route, as well as answering any questions you may have. Upon arrival at your hotel he will assist you with check in, continue answering any questions from you.

The rest of the day is free time for you, allowing you to relax and freshen-up after your flight, but should you wish an optional extra, such as a trip to the Giza Pyramids Sound and Light show or a River Nile dinner cruise, please feel free to ask our representative to arrange this for you.

Overnight in your hotel in Cairo (X)

  2. Day 2: Cairo

Once you have had your breakfast your guide will meet you and take you on a full day tour of Cairo. First of all you will be taken to Giza to see the world famous pyramids and sphinx. You will gaze in awe at the magnificent Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops): the last of the ancient Seven Wonders of the World, the pyramids of Khafre (Chephren), and Menkaure (Mycerinos), and then gaze in delight at the spectacle of the supreme Sphinx.

A quick break for lunch (optional) and you will then be taken to the Egyptian Museum (or as it is officially known: The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities!). Marvel at the thousands of artefacts from Egypt’s almost eternal history, 160,000 items spread out over 107 rooms, and then be prepared for your face to face encounter with the golden Death Mask of Tutankhamun.

From here you will be taken to the Citadel of Saladin, built on Cairo’s highest point: Mokattam Hill. Saladin erected the Citadel to protect Cairo, from the crusaders, between 1176 and 1183 CE and nowadays it houses 3 mosques (the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, the Al-Nasir Muhammad Qala'un Mosque, and the Mosque of Suleyman Pasha), 4 museums (Al-Gawhara Palace Museum, the Carriage Museum, the Egyptian Military Museum, and the Egyptian Police Museum), fortifications, walkways and a cafeteria.

At the end of this interesting day you will be driven back to your Cairo hotel. (B)

    Optional extras:
    During the tour:
Entrance to the Great Pyramid of Khufu
Entrance to the Pyramid of Khafre or Menkaure (only one is open at any given time)
    The Solar Boat Museum
The Royal Mummies Room in the Egyptian Museum

    In the evening:
Giza Pyramids Sound and Light Show
    River Nile dinner cruise
    River Nile felucca trip
Cairo Tower dinner and city views

  3. Day 3: Cairo: Lake Nasser Cruise Embarkation

Once you have had your breakfast our representative will meet you and transfer you to Cairo International Airport for your flight to Abu Simbel. Upon arrival our representative there will meet you and escort you, in our air-conditioned vehicle, to the dock to embark your Lake Nasser cruise boat, your floating hotel for the next 3 nights. After lunch your guide will take you to visit the site of Abu Simbel. Situated approximately 285 kilometres south of Aswan and south of the Tropic of Cancer, these two world famous temples are absolutely amazing. Built by Ramses II in honour of himself (the ultimate egotist?) and his favourite wife, Nefertari, these rock cut temples were moved, in 1968, to escape the encroaching waters of the newly formed Lake Nasser. After your visit here you will be taken back to your Lake Nasser cruise boat for dinner and overnight on board the ship. You also have the opportunity to take our optional extra, which is a fantastic sound and light show featuring the 2 temples of Abu Simbel. (B, L, D)

  4. Day 4: Lake Nasser Cruise: Kasr Ibrim/Amada/Wadi El Sebua

Whilst you are enjoying your breakfast, the cruise boat will while sail to Kasr Ibrim. Upon arrival you will only get to see the Kasr Ibrim fortress from the sun deck as entrance to the site is not permitted. You will then have lunch as the cruise boat sails to Amada, where you will visit the temple of Amada, which is Egypt’s oldest Nubian temple, Ed Deir and the tomb of Pennut. You will then return to the cruise boat as it sails to the Wadi El Sebua, which literally means “Valley of the Lions” due to the sphinxes guarding the temple, where you will have dinner. Overnight onboard at the Wadi El Sebua.   (B, L, D)

  5. Day 5: Lake Nasser Cruise: Aswan

After breakfast you will get to visit Wadi el Sebua, and then either walk, or take a camel ride (which you have to pay for yourself) to El Dakka and Mehraka. You will then head back to the ship to sail to Aswan, where you will have your dinner. Overnight onboard at Aswan.   (B, L, D)

  6. Day 6: Lake Nasser Cruise: Disembarkation/Cairo

After breakfast, you will be taken to visit the Kalabsha Temple, dedicated to the Nubian god Mandulis, and then Beit El Wali to visit the beautiful kiosk of Kertassi, encountering the Nubian style temple dedicated to the goddess Hathor. You will then be taken back to Aswan where our representative will help you to disembark the cruise and transfer you to Aswan International Airport, in our air-conditioned vehicle, for your flight back to Cairo. Upon arrival in Cairo our representative will meet you, assist you with your luggage to our air-conditioned vehicle, and then transfer you to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to do as you wish, though you may want to take one of our optional extras. (B)

Alternatively you could extend your stay in Aswan until the evening, allowing you to take one of our optional extras in Egypt’s southernmost city.

    Optional extras:
    Cairo:

Giza Pyramids Sound and Light Show
    River Nile dinner cruise
    River Nile felucca trip
Cairo Tower dinner and city views

    Aswan:
    Abu Simbel

Bon voyage, and thank you for travelling with Oriental Tours Egypt. (B)
